DIR® Floortime

At Speech Ally, we know that meaningful communication begins with connection. That’s why we have clinicians trained in DIR® Floortime—a relationship-based approach that supports a child’s development through emotional connection, play, and following their lead.

DIR® stands for Developmental, Individual-differences, Relationship-based. This model meets each child where they are and supports their growth by honoring how they interact with the world. Through playful, child-led interactions, we help children build important skills like emotional regulation, shared attention, two-way communication, language development, imaginative play, problem-solving, and emotional expression.

In a DIR®-informed session at Speech Ally, you can expect:

  • Therapy that follows your child’s interests, joy, and natural curiosity

  • Warm, playful back-and-forth interactions to support communication and engagement

  • Respect for each child’s sensory, motor, and emotional profile

  • A calm, flexible environment that adapts to your child’s needs

  • Active caregiver involvement, with coaching to support connection at home

DIR® Floortime is ideal for children who benefit from a neurodiversity-affirming, connection-first approach—including those who have big feelings, sensory differences, use scripting or echolalia, or prefer to play in their own way. Our goal is to create a safe space where your child can grow emotionally, socially, and communicatively—at their own pace and in their own way.
